Family Reunification Process in Portugal

You are a legal resident of Portugal and your wife/husband is in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, you can invite her for a short-stay Schengen (Type C) visit visa. As the sponsor in Portugal, you should normally provide the following documents:

Documents from your side (Portugal)

1. Invitation / Sponsorship (Termo de Responsabilidade)
   • A completed and signed Termo de Responsabilidade (Statement of Responsibility).
   • Your signature usually needs to be certified by a Portuguese notary, lawyer, or registry office.
2. Copy of your Residence Card
   • Front and back copy of your valid Portuguese residence permit.
3. Copy of your Passport
   • Bio-data page and signature page.
4. Proof of Accommodation
   • House rental agreement (Contrato de Arrendamento) or property ownership documents.
   • If available, a recent utility bill showing your address.
5. Proof of Financial Means
   • Last 3 months' bank statements.
   • Last 3 salary slips.
   • Employment contract or employer letter.
   • Latest IRS (Portuguese income tax return), if available.
6. Marriage Certificate
   • Since you are inviting your spouse, include your marriage certificate.
   • If the marriage certificate was issued in India, it should normally be apostilled before use.
7. Invitation Letter
   • A letter stating:
     • Your full name and address.
     • Your wife's name and passport number.
     • Purpose of visit (family visit).
     • Planned travel dates.
     • Where she will stay.
     • That you will provide accommodation and, if applicable, financial support.

Documents your wife should prepare in India

• Valid passport.
• Schengen visa application form.
• Passport-size photographs.
• Travel medical insurance.
• Flight reservation.
• Proof of ties to India (employment, business, property, family responsibilities, etc.).
• Personal bank statements (if she is paying for part of the trip).
• Your invitation documents listed above.
